The importance of further research

Our company, in collaboration with various institutions, has been carrying out research and development tasks for years in order to define new applications for ozone and introduce improved treatments to the market. These scientific research and technological development activities allow us to innovate in our field, obtaining tangible results that are transformed into solutions to common problems.

The following are the R&D projects carried out to date, all of them with very positive results:

– Microbiological study in ozonized glazes

Comparative microbiological study in a classic glaze for processing tuna loins and slices with and without ozonization system in a closed circuit

– Meat industry airing rooms

Comparative microbiological study in a meat industry with and without an ozonization system for cold rooms and cutting plants.

– Disinfection of cutting material

To evaluate the disinfectant efficacy of an ozone based system. From a known concentration of microorganisms (Escherichia coli strain 25922, Salmonella paratiphy strain and Listeria monocytogenes strain CECT 4032) the reduction of CFU’s in knives subjected to an ozone-saturated atmosphere for 10 minutes is evaluated.

Existing microbial load in the nutritive solution used for strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) cultivation in a rigid plastic greenhouse, located in the province of Huelva in hydroponic cultivation without substrate with complete recirculation.

– Meat Industry Technology Centre of La Rioja.

Study of the effectiveness of the application of ozone and neutral electrolysed water in the reduction of Lysteria monocytogenes in the meat industry facilities of La Rioja.

Behaviour of tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) during post-harvest treatment in ozonised atmospheres.

Lines of Investigation

The Ozone Therapy

It is a complementary therapy that has been used in the treatment of certain diseases, among which cancer has been the most important in recent years. Therefore, this work aims to define what this therapy consists of, as well as to analyze the effects it has on cancer patients, mainly those undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments.

Ozone therapy uses medical ozone as a working tool, which is obtained through an ozone generator, where ozone from the environment is mixed at small doses with oxygen. It should be noted that the reason why ozone therapy does not use environmental ozone directly is due to its high toxicity.

This alternative therapy is used because of its mechanism of action on the immune system, since it improves the antioxidant cellular activity by achieving, with its application, a rebalancing of the oxide-cellular reduction gradient in a direct way, which favors the elimination of free radicals and other reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are found in higher quantities than normal during cancer processes.

It stimulates the body’s defences and promotes the healing of ulcers and damaged joint tissues.

It allows to counteract the tumoral hypoxia and the cellular aging characteristic in cancerous processes.

Anti-inflammatory

Applied locally, it neutralizes the neurochemical mediators responsible for the sensation of pain.

Antiviral and Germicide

It inactivates or eliminates all types of pathogenic germs such as bacteria, viruses or fungi.

Evaluation of the anti-fungal effect of ozone

In order to evaluate the antifungal effect of ozone applied to water on the pathogen Colletotrichum acutatum

we performed a series of treatments in the laboratory that yielded the following result:

Experience

All treatments completely inhibited the germination of C. acutatum conidia under the conditions tested. The results of germination inhibition in all treatments were significant with respect to the control.

Results obtained

It could be concluded that the treatment of distilled water with Ozone, for 1 min or 5 min, totally inhibits the germination of conidia of C. acutatum, and the water previously treated with Ozone also inhibits the germination of conidia of the pathogen.
